We are casting! For the series “Masquerade” (AT) we are looking for actors (male, early 20-30s & female, 70+) who dare to look behind their own mask. It’s about a generation between small town and big city, between the desire for closeness and the fear of being seen. Between village parties and lonely nights, between self-deception and the tender hope of real connection. We are looking for faces and personalities who, with courage, honesty and a pinch of humor, tell the story of what happens when young people have to learn to endure themselves. Filming location: Cologne & surroundings.

PAUL (HR, M, early 20s, sporty, reserved)
Paul works. Outwardly reliable, controlled, polite. But things are bubbling under the surface.
Paul is a young man who has never learned that you are allowed to feel – and certainly not how. He wants to belong without betraying himself. To allow closeness without losing control. But the closer he gets to himself, the greater his fear of being seen. A body that fits. A life that doesn’t. Paul is on a quest. And is about to meet himself – for the first time for real.
OLLY (DNR, M, mid-20s, unconventional, charismatic)
Olly is the guy you notice first at a party – and forget about last.
Charismatic, playful, full of energy. He speaks loudly, laughs a lot, looks good – and is constantly running away from himself. Olly has lived many lives, done many jobs, tried out many roles. But behind all this flickers the fear that nothing will remain if he is quiet. He longs for someone who looks deeper. And stays – even if it hurts.
NICK (DNR, M, early 20s, tall, introverted)
Nick seems stable. Someone you can rely on.
Always there when there’s a fire. Always calm when others are shouting. But inside, he is on the verge of a breakdown. He wants to please everyone – parents, friends, life. And he hardly realizes how much he is losing himself. Nick is the rock of his life. But he’s afraid that he’s already crumbling.
JOHANNES (DNR, M, early 20s, loud, proud)
Johannes was the hero of the youth – shooting festival, village party, first driver’s license.
Son of an entrepreneur, loud guy, big ego, fast car. But his insecurity grows under the noise. He is expected to take over, function, bear responsibility – and doesn’t know how. So he makes jokes. Talks loudly. Plays the doer. But the role becomes tight. And at some point, Johannes also has to make a decision: Life or label.
ALEX (EHR, M, approx. 32, attractive, intimidating)
Alex has style, money, self-confidence – and an aura that immediately puts the pressure on.
He’s not a villain, but a player. With power. With proximity. With people. He knows how to get close to someone – and how to roll over them. Alex looks like a dream. But if you look closely, you can see the compulsion to control, the manipulation, the coldness behind the smile. And how quickly tenderness can become a weapon.
FLORIAN (NR, M, approx. 20, colorful, direct)
Florian wears glitter, attitude and an invisible shield.
He has no desire to explain himself – but is also not afraid to speak plainly. Loud, quick, charming, uncomfortable. He knows how to provoke. And how to protect. Behind his colorful façade is a razor-sharp gaze – and a heart that knows exactly who deserves it.
RENATE (NR, W, 70+, vital, humorous and direct)
Renate not only drives hitchhikers around – she also drives through life like someone who no longer has anything to prove.
Witty, alert, incorruptible. She was already wild when her grandchildren weren’t even planned yet. With dry irony, she hands out life advice like candy – whether you like it or not. And they are usually spot on.
VALERIE (NR, W, early 20s, extroverted, self-confident)
Valerie is the heart of every round. Open, warm and approachable.
She has a talent for connecting people – and a feel for the nuances. But sometimes she realizes too late that not everyone can keep up with her pace. Her closeness is honest, but sometimes too much. Because Valerie means well – just not always carefully.

We would like to realize the series over the course of a year on a total of six extended weekends. The plot reflects this accordingly. We also meet our characters for a brief moment every year. Then a lot of time passes again. Before we start shooting, all the roles are to be developed and deepened in a workshop in Cologne. Ideally, we work together in the workshop with the same people who will later play the roles. This is a fair no-budget production. You can find more information about our no-budget philosophy here.
